Navy Strength Gin

Gin

In the nineteenth century, gin was considered a panacea for many ailments encountered on the high seas. The Gimlet cocktail was created by a doctor in the Royal Navy as a preventative for scurvy, combining gin for fortification with Rose’s Lime Cordial for vitamin C.

However, some of the more gin-savvy naval officers suspected their gin supplies were being diluted. To test them, they would spill a little gin onto the ship’s gunpowder. If the powder smoked, the spirit was too weak; but if it still ignited, the gin was confirmed to be at least 114 proof (57% ABV). From this tradition came the term “Navy Strength.”

Tasting Notes

Navy Strength Gin is a powerful yet smooth overproof gin, crafted with cocktails in mind. Distilled with native finger limes from Byron Bay and fresh ginger in the botanical basket, it delivers exceptional intensity and vibrant citrus character. Turmeric adds weight to the palate along with a fresh, earthy dimension, while the overall profile remains sweet, juicy, and remarkably clean. The result is a gin of great power, lifted by super-charged citrus notes and high-toned freshness.
