Duorum Reserva Old Vines

Reserva Vinhas Velhas bottle image

Wine Description

A field blend consisting mainly of Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca, with small quantities of Tinta Roriz and Sousão blended in. These grapes are sourced from two different sub-regions, the Cima Corgo and High Douro, two exceptional terroirs with different elevations and characteristics. The grapes are harvested from September to October and undergo a cold maceration in lagares for two to three days. The wine is aged approximately 12 to 18 months in French oak barrels.

Acclaim
“The 2007 Reserva Old Vines was the first wine I saw from this young winery. Now at 10 years old, let's check in. It is a field blend from old vines, principally Touriga Nacional (45%), Touriga Franca (45%), Tinta Roriz (5%) and Sousao (5%), oak-aged for 12-18 months depending on the lot. I had one off bottle but the others have been consistent and excellent. This seemed like a big wine on release but today it seems impeccably balanced. Refined and even a little understated, this has old-school finesse on the mid-palate. It never seems bulky or sweet but the fruit always lingers appealingly on the finish. Youthful and fresh, the fruit is open and expressive, with some floral nuances and a hint of beef on the finish. Still vibrant, it has some grip on the finish and a lively feel, something you don't always see in this rich and big vintage. The tannins have moderated but there is still that grip. Showing beautifully, this is easily its best performance yet. It clearly has lots more life left. I'm always conservative in such things, though, so let's continue to take this early release in stages. It should hold longer than the current drinking window. What it will be like as it does is the harder question. For the moment, this is very classy.”
