Wine Description

Elegant and classic Pinot Noir that fits the name "Grandmother".  Laura has a profound respect for what grandparents do for children, and she wanted to honor their love and wisdom with this wine.

Acclaim
“I tasted the 2021 Grand Mère Pinot Noir next to the 2020, and it showed more contained ripeness (13% alcohol) and even better integration of the oak. It fermented with some clusters, less than the rest of the range here, and matured in French oak that was selected very carefully to not mark the wines. It's floral, clean and elegant, with a medium-bodied palate and refined tannins with a long finish where the flowers and red berries are intermixed with some spices and a dry, stony sensation.”
— Wine Advocate, Nov 2022
“The 2021 Pinot Noir Grand Mére from Villa Bastías, Uco Valley was aged for 14 months in a tenth new barrels. Garnet red with a ruby sheen. The fragrant nose offers notes of sour cherry, mushrooms, damp earth, rose petals and herbal, stalky aromas. Silky with delicate tension and slightly grippy tannins, the flavors fill the mouth. The year has enhanced the freshness, and the finish lingers at length.”
— Vinous, Nov 2022

About the Vineyard

Villa Bastias is located in Tupungato within the Uco Valley.  The vineyard is old and planted with Dijon Clones in 1993.  The Grand Mère parcel gets more sun than the Grand Pere block, with generous and silky tannins. Winemaking is traditional and gentle for these delicate wines.  Yields are extrememly low in both sites due to the age of the vineyard.
