Catena Zapata Adrianna Vineyard Mundus Bacillus Terrae

Catena Zapata Adrianna Vineyard Mundus Bacillus Terrae Malbec bottle image

Wine Description

Mundus Bacillus means 'elegant bacteria' in Latin, and is named in honor of the bacteria that live in the soil in Adrianna Vineyard. Similar to research  that has shown that bacteria living inside and outside the human body may help combat cancer and autoimmune disease, it is thought that bacteria living within the plants' roots may be the key to why vines are able to survive in such stressful, extreme conditions as those found in the arid and cold Adrianna Vineyard.

Acclaim
“The 2015 Mundus Bacillus Terrae Malbec (100%) from Adrianna Vineyard is medium to deep garnet-purple in color. It springs from the glass with vibrant notes of redcurrant jelly, Morello cherries, and black raspberries with hints of red roses, cinnamon toast, and menthol. Medium-bodied, the palate shimmers with energy, being framed by rock solid, grainy tannins, with elegant red and black fruit layers, and finishing long and fragrant. It should cellar gracefully over the next 20+years.”
— Wine Independent, Oct 2022
“This is a phenomenal Malbec with intense blue fruits such as blueberries and blackberries. Black truffle, too. Full body, bright and juicy with fantastic power and richness yet the acidity and energy just keeps going. Volcanic salt and white pepper. A thoroughly breathtaking wine.”
— James Suckling, Mar 2018
