Poggio ai Merli di Castellare

Poggio ai Merli Merlot Toscana IGT bottle image

Wine Description

Poggio ai Merli is made entirely from Merlot, and named after the single vineyard from which it is produced. Located in the heart of Chianti Classico, grapes are imbued with all the terroir-driven characteristics of Tuscany's most famous viticultural area. This wine embodies Castellare's innovation by producing international varietals in an area world-famous for Sangiovese.

Acclaim
“This rich red is saturated with black cherry, black currant, tar, wild rosemary and cedar flavors. Beautifully layered, ripe and fresh, with a lingering fruity and savory aftertaste and refined tannins.”
— Wine Spectator, Oct 2021
“Poggio ai Merli (Merlot) is a dark, fleshy wine that will drink well right out of the gate. Spice, leather, new oak and tobacco add pretty hints of Chianti Classico savoriness to the lush Merlot fruit. Although quite appealing now, the 2019 has enough tannic grip to age well for many years to come.”
— Vinous, Sep 2021
