Wine Description

I Sodi di San Niccolò was created in the early 1980s with the goal of demonstrating that the native grapes could produce a wine with all the power and grace of a Super Tuscan.  The name "I Sodi" refers to land that is difficult to till (grapes must be hand-harvested), and "San Niccolò" is an abandoned church on the Castellare property.  This wine captures the enormous potential of the Sangioveto grape.

Acclaim
The 1985 I Sodi di San Niccolò is quite typical of the year. A burst of dark red fruit totally saturates the palate. The aromas and flavors are a touch developed, but there is more than enough muscle to allow the wine to continue to drink well for a number of years. This is a fairly immediate Sodi that captures the essence of the 1985 vintage in Tuscany. Tar, smoke, scorched earth, licorice, mint and sweet spices wrap around the generous, sensual finish.
