Castellare Chianti Classico

Chianti Classico DOCG bottle image

Wine Description

Located in the Chianti Classico commune of Castellina, this Castellare offering is comprised primarily of the local Sangiovese grape, Sangioveto.  Research begun in the late 1970s allowed Castellare to isolate this clone and enabled the winery to make this very unique style of a Tuscan classic.

Acclaim
This sleek red displays cherry, raspberry and spice flavors, with vibrant acidity and light tannins for support. Fine length.
— Wine Spectator, Jul 2016
“The 2014 Chianti Classico is being released now. Grapes are fermented with ambient yeasts partially in stainless steel and in barrel. The wine is then put in cement for up to eight months to rest and lock in its fruity freshness. This is a successful expression with an easy but very clean and lean approach. Fruit is sourced from various sites on the property. The bouquet shows bright berry tones and the mouthfeel is silky and supple.”
