Campbells Rutherglen Durif is made from the original Durif of Rutherglen clone, a rare variety that flourishes in Rutherglen, Australia. Durif (Petite Sirah) is renowned for its powerful tannins and usually requires some bottle age prior to drinking. However, Campbells Rutherglen Durif has been carefully nurtured, through the use of sophisticated winemaking techniques, to produce a wine that can also be enjoyed in its youth.
About the Vineyard
Rutherglen in Victoria, Australia is blessed with long and gently warm Summer/Autumn. There is very rarely a threat of rain until April and May and this ensures that that late ripening varieties such as Durif tend to grow beautifully well in our region and produce wines with great aromatics and elegance.
Opaque ruby red. Full black cherries on the nose with a lifted floral edge. The integrated oak ads depth, spice and a hint of char. Intense dark cherry and black plum fruit fill the mouth and slowly give way to a beautiful texture and aromas of ironstone and coffee grounds. The wine finishes with lingering dark fruit, char and very fine tannin.
Ideal now with full flavored char grilled meats, or cellar for 10 years, when an aged rib eye will be more than suitable.
