Portia Summa

Portia Summa

Bodegas Portia is Grupo Faustino’s most recent winery project and is the 7th winery in the group. Located in the heart of Ribera del Duero, the Portia winery is a display of modern design, winemaking function and artistic detail. The brand offers very small production wines - intense, energetic & balanced. Summa is part of Portia's "Vino de autor" category, with a strong emphasis on the winemaker's individual style and idea of reflection of terroir characteristics. The name "Summa" refers to the latin world "sum" as a result of all winemaking efforts during its unique production process.

Wine Production

Alcoholic and malolactic fermentations take place in 400L un-toasted new French oak barrels. It then stays in these barrels for 10 months aging on its own lees. During the first 10 days, the barrels are stirred every 2 hours by hand, and after that, twice per day. Once this process has finished, the wine rests in 225L new French barrels for 8 months, followed by at least 22 months aging in bottle.

Tasting Notes

Aromas of ripe black fruit with light toast and spices. Very powerful, yet elegant, on the palate. Notes of ripe, jammy fruit with subtle toasted notes, with soft tasty tannins and a long, lingering finish.

Food Pairing

Delicious with any kind of grilled red meat, fatty fish, and medium matured cheeses. Perfect alongside desserts with dark chocholate.

About the Vineyard

From the Finca Fuentellamas vineyard in Gumiel de Mercado. Vines with an age of 100 years are grown at an elevation of 850m. Sandy
soils are very poor in nutrients and have minimal water retention. This translates in low yields and wines of great personality and refinement.
