Acclaim
“All of the other El Enemigo Bonardas are single parcel wines from Eastern Mendoza, but this is a marriage with 15% Cabernet Franc from Gualtallary. The two work well together, with a leafy, graphite-scented note embellishing the elegant raspberry and red cherry fruit” (Best Bonardas of the Year)
— Tim Atkin, MW, May 2019
“Winemaker Alejandro Vigil has to travel eastward to the El Mirador Vineyard in Rivadavia in the warm part of Mendoza to get his bonarda grapes. That’s where this late-ripening variety can ripen easily and offer the generous, voluptuous fruit flavors that develop under the zone’s intense sun. Pressed entirely whole-cluster for greater freshness, this wine also has 15% cabernet franc from the heights of Gualtallary, which adds a light herbal touch, but more importantly, it lends the hard bones that provides the structure that this red’s generously meaty flesh can rest upon.”
