Wine Description

This legendary red was created by the brothers Franco and Giuseppe Argiolas with the support of renowned enologist Giacomo Tachis. A muscular yet elegant blend of 85% Cannonau and 15% Malvasia Nera, Carignano and Bovale Sardo grown in the Turriga vineyard and macerated for 16-18 days in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks to fully extract tannins, flavors and color. After fermentation, Turriga is aged in barriques for 18-24 months, allowing for an austere, yet elegant and rich body.

The 2001 Turriga is endowed with gorgeous aromatics. Minerals and herbs gradually emerge from the glass adding complexity to the perfumed, silky fruit. The 2001 reveals terrific balance, length and clarity, all in a style that is at once powerful yet medium in body. Simply put, this is a fabulous Turriga.

Dark ruby-red. Deep aromas and flavors of blackcurrant, blackberry, red plums, flint, cedar, cinnamon and nutmeg are refreshed by a hint of lemon peel. Densely packed and tightly coiled, but with a sweetness of fruit that's lifted and focused by the wine's harmonious acidity. No shortage of texture here; this is one of the more powerful and darker fruit versions of Turriga ever. Long and multilayered on the finish, this is still very young.
