Baterista by Paxton

Baterista by Paxton

The Baterista, or the drummer, is used by cultures from around the world to create a sense of unity or harmony with rhythm, the foundation to all music and the manifestation of time. At Paxton, they  believe there is also rhythm in organic farming, a spiritual-ethical-ecological approach that promotes harmony of all living matter. Organic farming produces socially responsible vineyards of extraordinary health producing high quality wines, and the Baterista is made with 100% organic grapes. The health of the vineyards thrives on the rhythm of life and matter that lies beneath the soil.

The Baterista is crafted in collaboration with Ronnie Vannucci Jr., drummer of The Killers, born from a mutual love of organic, biodynamic, and sustainable farming, and a deep love of music. The Baterista is an exceptional example of a premium single vineyard, hand crafted Shiraz from McLaren Vale that shows great depth and complexity, and the true purity of fruit and vitality in organic, biodynamic winemaking.

Wine Production

The grapes are delicately selected and hand-picked in the cool of the morning, destemmed with care, and fermented in small-batch open fermenters for up to 20 days on skins. Pressed straight into high caliber French oak for a minimum of 18 months, only the most spectacular barrels are selected by the winemaker for this exclusive blend. It is then aged in the bottle for two years before release.

Tasting Notes

Notes of late summer blackberries echoing into some old school beats of earthy cedar notes, cassia and jazzy-smooth red velvet cupcakes.

Smooth funk vibrations build up with a wave-like rhythm into a gravelly grunge-rock sound before the explosive crescendo of dripping blood plums and cinnamon myrtle. This arena-worthy Shiraz peters out softly like delicate hands on the skin of a drum. This is a full-bodied wine with bright layers of fruit blended with delicious, luxurious and exquisite oak. Richness, depth and concentrated fruit flavor with notes of plums and blackcurrants give this wine amazing length and power.

Food Pairing

This wine pairs beautifully with French-trimmed lamb rack, polenta, and a balsamic reduction.
