One of the most exciting reds I tasted in 1999. It has the power and finesse of a great claret, but remains thoroughly Italian. The wine comes from a chic Roman photographer, Silvia Imparato, who began making it in the early '90s to serve to her friends. Now, even they have a hard time getting this Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Aglianico blend, produced about 30 miles south of Naples from hillside vineyards.
Saturated deep ruby. Bright blackberry and licorice aromas. Sweet, deeply fruity flavors of dark berries and dark chocolate....Lush and dense but bright, with firm backbone and excellent persistence. Finishes with velvety tannins and excellent length. A superb dolcetto.
