Winery Overview
Quinta do Passadouro is located on the left bank of the Pinhão River in the Douro Valley. The estate is co-owned by the Bohrman family and Jorge Serôdio Borges, whose family has been in the Port wine business for years. As a testament to his pedigree in the industry, Jorge also serves as director and head winemaker.
Location of Vineyard
This sprawling property in the heart of the Douro’s Cima Corgo consists of two different vineyards: Quinta do Passadouro and Quinta do Sibio. Both vineyards boast a range of indigenous varieties native to the Douro, including Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinat Roriz, Sousão and Tinta Barroca.
Winemaking Philosophy
With roots in the famed Niepoort Port house, Passdouro makes notable Port in its own right. It also creates excellent unfortified wine employing foot treading in granite lagars, which keeps bitter compounds from the grape skins from entering the wine. Throughout the past few years Jorge and his team have modernized the vineyards by installing state-of-the-art equipment, all of which has taken the winery to the next level in quality and production.
Jorge Serôdio Borges’s early experience includes working as an oenologist at Niepoort under Dirk Niepoort. Now, in addition to owning Quinta do Passadouro with two oenologist friends, he is and his wife, Sandra Tavares da Silva (also an oenologist) own Wine & Soul Winery. Sandra gained her experience at Quinta do Vale D. Maria in the Douro and at her family’s estate of Chocapalha in Estremadura; his two oenologist friends also run and share ownership of the x3 Winery.
