Wine Description
Made from 100% Vespaiola grapes that have been naturally dried for 4 - 5 months before fermentation. The color of Torcolato - pale to golden amber - depends on the amount of botrytis cinirea (a noble rot that concentrate sugars in the berries) that affects the grapes each year. The wine is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels, 1/3 of which are new.
Tasting Notes
Torcolato offers rich, spicy aromas of baked pears with hints of apricots, honey, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg and hazelnuts. It is a succulent, luscious dessert wine, with a mellow sweetness perfectly balanced by a spicy acidity. In Italy, Torcolato is considered a "meditation wine," best served on its own. However, it is also excellent with crumble cakes and fruit tarts and especially with gorgonzola or other creamy cheeses.
Reviews
Wine Spectator - April 30, 2009
“Fresh lemon zest character accompanies the syrupy dried fruit and floral notes from start to finish. Full-bodied, with superlively acidity and a toffee and light caramel undertone. Rich and racy. Great with fresh fruit.” – J.C.

"Deep yellow-gold. Explosive, rich aromas of mango, acacia honey, dried apricot and raisin. Viscous in its richness, offering very sweet flavors of dried apricot, mango and burnt sugar along with enough acidity to give it focus and cut. Very long and minerally on the aftertaste."
