Castillo Labastida

Labastida Reserva 2004

Wine Description

Lasbastida Reserva is made from 100% hand-harvested Tempranillo, fermented in stainless steel tanks. Aged in American and French oak barriques for sixteen months followed by twenty months in bottle for additional refinement, this wine offers a focused expression of its unique terroir.

Tasting Notes

Labastida Reserva is deep garnet in color with elegant, interwoven aromas of dried red cherries, dark wild berries and—as the wine opens up—hints of toast and violets. On the palate, the wine exhibits beautiful structure: fine tannins, silky texture, long length and a spicy finish. Pair with cured or smoked meats, roast game or aged granular cheeses.

Wine Advocate - Issue #181/February 2009

“The 2004 Labastida Reserva is a traditionally styled Rioja made from 100% Tempranillo that was aged for 16 months in seasoned French and American oak. Bright cherry red in color, the nose reveals smoke, mineral, leather, and black cherry. This leads to an elegantly styled wine with nicely integrated oak, wild berry flavors, excellent depth…”
