Bruno Giacosa

Barolo Le Rocche di Falletto DOCG 2005

Wine Description

Made from 100% Nebbiolo grapes selected from four parcels in the prestigious Falletto vineyard. The grapes are harvested in early October. After crushing, the must is macerated with the skins for 10 days in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks. After fermentation, the wine is transferred to large, seven to thirteen-year old French oak barrels for 30 months. The result is a benchmark Barolo, offering smooth, ripe fruit flavors perfectly balanced with lively acidity and refined tannins.

Tasting Notes

This seductive Barolo is intense brick-red in color, and offers a sublime bouquet of blackberry, spice box, leather and tobacco. Extremely balanced and elegant, it possesses a solid body with and a long balsamic finish beautifully framed by polished tannins. A wine of outstanding quality and one of Winebow’s perennial favorites.

Italy's 50 Greatest Ever Wines
"Although Bruno Giacosa has sourced grapes from an exclusive network of growers in select areas for decades, in 1982 he also bought Falletto, one of the most coveted vineyards in the Langhe. ‘Falletto’s limestone soil gives the wine great structure, while the south/ south-west exposure allows grapes to ripen under the best conditions, generating a long growing season,’ says the winemaker. ‘Nebbiolo needs to mature slowly to give the wine its complexity.’ In excellent vintages, Giacosa makes one of the most prized Barolos, Le Rocche del Falletto Riserva, from the single vineyard located in the heart of Serralunga d’Alba. A wine of great structure, the Falletto Riserva also has Giacosa’s hallmark of elegance and though enjoyable young, it can easily age for 30-40 years."
