Bruno Giacosa

Barolo Falletto DOCG 2005

Wine Description

A 100% Nebbiolo harvested in the Falletto vineyard. The must is macerated for 20 days with the skins and fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. To achieve the greatest elegance, the wine is matured in large French oak barrels for 30 months.

Tasting Notes

Impressive for its firm but elegant tannins, this Barolo is rich in raspberry, leather, and anise aromas. Extremely refined and balanced with abundant flavors of chocolate and tobacco, this full-bodied and massive Barolo is recommended with meat dishes (especially those with a Barolo based sauce), game, and smoked cheeses.

Italy's 50 Most Exciting Wines
"Bruno Giacosa represents the traditional approach to winemaking in Piedmont. But in his case, 'traditional' does not mean 'old fashioned.' In fact Giacosa believes that the more traditional methods of winemaking are better suited to the typical grapes of Piedmont, particularly to Nebbiolo. He buys grapes from growers he trusts, people he has worked with for more than 30 years, and turns out a large range of excellent wines from his cantina in Neive. This Barolo, however, is made from Nebbiolo grapes from his own Falletto estate in Serralunga..."
