Bruno Giacosa

Barolo DOCG 2001

Wine Description

Made from 100% Nebbiolo harvested in early October from select vineyards in Serralunga d'Alba. After crushing, the must is macerated with the skins for 20 days and fermented in stainless steel tanks. After fermentation, the wine is transferred to large, 4-10 year old French oak barrels for a minimum of three years.

Tasting Notes

Brilliant garnet in color with orange hues, this Barolo offers textbook spicy aromas of dried fruit, mushroom and wild berries. Incredibly long-lived, this is the wine of choice for pot roast, casseroles, sausages and steaks.

"The dense, brooding 2001 Barolo offers sensations of spices, minerals and underbrush on the nose followed by plenty of dark fruit on a muscular frame of great length and harmony."

Wine & Spirits - December 2005

"There's beautiful tone to this delicate Barolo; its pure red fruit has cool and clear woodland scents of forest berries, porcini and earth. The tannins share the same refinement as the fruit, balanced and lasting, set to mature together with grace."

"...[Appealing]plum, blackberry and cedar character....Full-bodied, with fine, velvety tannins and a long, rich finish. A gorgeous, pretty wine."
