Languedoc-Roussillon

Languedoc-Roussillon, formerly referred to as the Midi, is the 'new world' region of France, and one that has been undergoing a quality revolution over the last 20 years. Many grower activists co-exist in this area, who often revolt against the diminishing subsidies they are receiving for their bulk wine.

Comprising approximately one third of all French vineyards and wine production, this Catalan region is the world’s largest vineyard area.  The climate is Mediterranean climate, with minimal rainfall during the growing season and generous amounts of sunshine. This results in consistent ripening in most vintages. This large region contains soils of every geological origin.

The wine regions of Languedoc-Roussillon are carved into an arc formed by the Massif Central, the volcanic blend of plateaus and mountains that also defines the Rhône Valley, just to the north.
