Castello di Bossi

Marco Bacci
Owner and Winemaker

Marco was born in Florence on October 5, 1959. Upon successfully completing Classic High School, he started working in the family textile and clothing business at age 19. In just four years on the job Marco increased the production from 400 pieces per day to 18,000 pieces per day, demonstrating an ability to work tirelessly and achieve impressive goals. To help grow the company, Marco travelled regularly to India, Bangladesh, Thailand, and Vietnam, to seek out the best fabrics. In 1985, he moved to China and later began production plants in South Africa and Zimbabwe. He greatly enjoyed this travel, and though exhausting, it gave him opportunity to share ideas with people around the world.

During the company’s expansion, Marco, his brother Maurizio, and their father, purchased the Castello di Bossi estate in Castelnuovo Berardenga in 1985. They considered the purchase a good investment and worthy side business. They bottled the first Corbaia that year, a blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet, and began replanting the vineyards.

In 1995, Marco’s passion for wine could no longer be kept to the sidelines, and he committed himself fulltime to the 300+ acres of exquisite vineyards and the production of world-class Tuscan wines. His dedication to and love of Tuscany prompted him to purchase the Renieri estate in Montalcino in 1998, and a year later the Terre di Talamo property in Maremma. Today the three properties cover almost 2,500 acres of land with nearly 500 acres of vineyards in the best Tuscan appellations: Castello di Bossi in the Chianti Classico DOCG, Renieri in the Brunello di Montalcino DOCG and Terre di Talamo in the Morellino di Scansano DOC.

Much to his satisfaction, his brother’s interest in wine is developing, and Marco’s son Jacopo is studying for a Doctorate in Viticulture.

The Bossi Castle is located in the town of Castelnuovo Berardenga, the southernmost appellation of Chianti Classico, amidst evergreen woods and long rows of vines. With a history dating back to the 9th century A.D., the estate embraces modern technology, while at the same time respecting the traditional character of the lands of Chianti. It is this balance that has been a key part of Marco Bacci’s vision as he has brought Castello di Bossi to the highest ranks in the realm of international wine.

The estate is led by a dynamic team that never shies from technological innovation, while also remaining true to the terroir of Chianti. Marco Bacci is the mastermind of Castello di Bossi as he oversees all the operations, from beginning to end, with careful attention to detail . In the last 10 years, Marco has added two additional properties to his holdings: Renieri in Montalcino and Terre di Talamo in the Morellino di Scansano appellation.

Today, with his brother Maurizio, Marco owns one of the best collections of estates in Tuscany, and is creating high quality wines from some of the top Tuscan appellations. Following in his father’s footsteps, Marco’s son, Jacopo Bacci, is employed by the company and is studying for a Doctorate in Agriculture in Florence. The wine consultant is Alberto Antonini, and Federico Curtaz is the agronomist.
