New Zealand

New Zealand has defined a new benchmark style for Sauvignon Blanc. Its purity of fruit expression with pungent notes of capsicum and gooseberry has captured the hearts of the U.S. market. Much of New Zealand’s success with this grape is based on the winemakers’ mantra of ‘quality above all.’ This means expert care in the vineyards, including canopy and trellis management, which requires a great amount of time, labor and attention.

Extreme care when it comes to viticulture and vinification is mandatory in this marginal, maritime climate where rainfall leads to vigor and shading, preventing full ripeness. Beyond Sauvignon Blanc, other grape varieties are starting to get some attention too, such as Chardonnay from Gisbourne and Pinot Noir from Martinborough and Central Otago.

The New Zealand wine industry is a dynamic one, and Winebow is pleased to offer a portfolio that is focused on small, family-owned, estate properties, representing the very finest this country has to offer.
