Australia boasts some of the oldest vitis vinifera vines in the world. Beginning in the late 18th century, cuttings were imported from all over Europe, before phylloxera devastated those vineyards.
By the early 19th century, most of the Australian regions we know and love today were in full production swing:
- Western Australia: Margaret River and Swan Valley are known for their award winning, elegant wines from Chardonnay, Bordeaux and Rhône varieties.
- South Australia: Harbors the wine regions of Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale and Coonawarra for legendary, long-lived reds, and the regions Adelaide Hills, Eden and Clare Valleys for complex, cool climate whites.
- Victoria: Home to the cool climate zone of Yarra Valley where Pinot Noir and Chardonnay reign (in sparkling styles too).
With so much geological complexity and quality-oriented winemaking, Australia’s offerings are numerous and stylistically varied. Winebow’s goal has always been to painstakingly search out small to medium- size appellation leaders. Our core distribution concept is vineyard-based, family-owned properties - and our Australian portfolios of Old Bridge Cellars and Peter Click Selections are no exceptions. We specialize in quality-driven, small estates making world class wine, and represent winemakers who pursue truly distinctive, regionally-defined styles using minimal intervention to create wines that sit comfortably with the world's best in class.
